All U14 teams will choose from gold or silver divisions. Premier &/or bronze divisions will be added if needed based on the total number of registered teams. Teams will be allowed to switch between divisions as long as the division has not closed. As a general rule, we do not recommend that teams play up in age. If you have any questions about the appropriate division after reading our division recommendations, please call Mike (503-317-7576) to discuss your team's placement in the tournament.
The U14 divisions will be limited to sixteen teams. If a division fills at sixteen teams, each division would then be seeded into four 4-team brackets. Geography, club affiliation and team history will be used to seed the teams. We will work hard to schedule teams so they get to play teams from outside their home geographic area as we know this creates a more enjoyable tournament experience.
Once the teams have been assigned to their divisions, teams will play two or three games in a preliminary round. After the preliminary round games have been completed the teams will be rebracketed based on their win/loss record and will proceed to the playoffs. The format for the playoffs will be based on the total number of teams in each division.
Every team is guaranteed to play four games, while some may get a fifth game. Every team should plan on one or two games on Friday and one or two games on Saturday with one game on Sunday. Over 70% of the teams will play on Sunday as it is very difficult to schedule four games on two days. Some teams may get a friendly game scheduled for Sunday and teams are expected to participate in every game they are scheduled for. Teams should be prepared to begin at 9am on Friday and will conclude on Sunday afternoon.
Gold Divsion:
Teams that played in the top division of their fall league &/or participated in their State Cup should play at this level. Teams that finish in the top three of their state's second tier
tournament would have a fun challenging experience in the gold division. Remember that teams will be rebracketed after the preliminary round games so you will generally see new teams once your team
enters the playoff round.
Silver Division:
Teams that played in the second level of their fall league &/or in their state's second tier tournament should choose the silver division. Teams that are newly formed and do not have a history
should enter this division. Teams that play at the rec level and win every game would have a fun experience in the silver division.
